James Woods, DVM, MS, DACVIM (SAIM)

Dr. Woods received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Florida in 2001. Upon graduation, he was selected by Colorado State University for a one-year appointment in their rotating small animal internship. Upon completion of the internship, he was invited to stay at CSU for a three-year residency in small animal internal medicine. During the residency, Dr. Woods earned a Master’s in Clinical Sciences while also completing several original research studies in feline infectious diseases. The results of these studies have been published as well as presented at the annual ACVIM Forum meetings. Upon completion of the residency in 2005, he obtained board certification in small animal internal medicine and is a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM).

Dr. Woods has worked at large specialty veterinary hospitals in Southern California, Florida, and North Carolina. In 2012, he decided to leave the large multi-specialty veterinary hospital he was employed at in Charlotte, to establish Savannah Veterinary Internal Medicine, which opened in 2013. Dr. Woods practices all areas of internal medicine with a special interest in gastrointestinal diseases, gastrointestinal endoscopy, esophageal disorders (his personal dog has congenital megaesophagus), the use of enteral feeding devices, nasal diseases benefitting from rhinoscopy, acute blood-directed immune-mediated diseases, chronic and acute pancreatitis, and vector-borne infectious diseases. Dr. Woods has advanced training and over 20 years of experience in therapeutic & diagnostic endoscopy as well as ultrasound imaging. Dr. Woods is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM).
